Dear Maris and Rod,
There will always be a special place in my heart for your mom. She was so gifted in many ways and always treated me and my children with utmost kindness. She was my friend and taught me so much over the time we spent together each week in Centre Island. My sincere condolences to her wonderful family.
Sincerely
Judy Duva
Joan was the relative I never had. To a person without cousins, aunts, grandparents, Joan was it all.
She was always the person I invited over or went to see on holidays. She was there for the good and sad.
The thoughtfulness she undertook with my aged parents was extraordinary. Storms, hurricanes, 1992. Always shelter with the Williams who had fires, later generators, and always kindness.
We shared so very much. Taste, dish patterns, love of art and animals! Joan always helped when we had stray animals left at our doorstep. Sigrid, a pregnant German Shepard…then puppies. Under the garbage house. We saved them and got them adopted.
Compassion was a byword.
We just passed Thanksgiving and i could not call her. Now Christmas, not the same without her!
So very much more to add soon!
Still painful!
Thank you. Mosie. Your words brought back memories. I miss her more now, as time moves and and the initial “shock” relaxes…
Thinking more about Joan.
NYC. Driving back to the City from the weekends. Will NYC ever elect a Republican mayor ( John Lindsay)? Jack more of a Republican..Joan more of a Democrat.
Gimbel’s East. Long gone. Bridal Department. Now an apartment house..
Glen Cove musical group, Long Island Virtuosi .
Drying flowers. Joan loved the native plants around the Island and made them into lovely compositions after each dried.
Sailing. Joan was a good sailor and loved being on the water.
Shaker aesthetic. A simple style.
The first time i remember knowing her name was when she sent flowers to the hospital when my father had a surgery. Joan and Jack always sent flowers to friends when in the hospital.
Friday, Sunday and the feral cat always a center piece of the house and home.
